Back in 2014, Oobli Founder and CTO Dr. Jason Ryder became obsessed with making better-for-you foods that could create a positive impact on both our bodies and the planet. The world boasts more than 65 million acres of sugarcane — that's a lot of sugar. This huge number has devastating impacts spanning climate, food, and our health — not to mention the incredible wealth of resources required to support the consequences of our sugar habit. Jason knew there had to be a better way to embrace sweetness with all of the taste and none of the sacrifice. Almost a decade ago, he discovered the world-changing potential of sweet proteins from fruits and berries grown near the equator. These plants produce special proteins that are up to 5,000x sweeter than sugar! Since then, Oobli has been focused on perfecting a fermentation process to replicate and produce these sweet proteins as a means to reduce the impact on our planet and give people a healthy form of sweetness. Now, we have our first products — award-winning milk and dark chocolates — made with these tiny but powerful sweet proteins, and we're close to launching partner products using our Oolbi sweet proteins as a sweetener.
