KULA Foods

Sprouted in 2018, KULA started as a project of founder Asha Wheeldon's passion. The journey began in her hometown of Isiolo in Kenya, where growing, preparing, and sharing food with her community was an important part of every day. At 11 years old, she migrated to Toronto, where she was introduced to West African, Caribbean, and Middle Eastern cuisine and culture. After moving to Vancouver, she was looking for food, flavours, and spaces that reminded her of home. After becoming plant-based and exploring food options, she noticed the gap in culturally diverse food options. Though the plant-based industry was, and is, booming, she didn't see herself reflected in the grocery shelves and markets. This encouraged her to create a brand that not only offers nourishing food, but creates spaces and stories for inclusion, representation, and community connections through food. And KULA Foods was born! KULA focuses on creating nourishing Afro-Caribbean plant-based food products. Our current product lineup features 6 items, including 3 sauces and 3 meat alternatives. Our sauces contain no added sugar and are made from the highest quality pantry staples. As for our protein-packed meat alternatives, they come in 3 irresistible flavors, pre-marinated for your convenience. Simply heat, eat, and savor the goodness. All of our items are 100% vegan, gluten-free, soy-free, and made with no added sugar.
