My name is Frank Park and I medically retired as a fireman from LA, due to mental health after 11 years. At work, good food always brought great conversation. The sauce, chimichurri, represents fire season for us. Long days at work, real burn out. But having a good meal, led to good “table talk.” The TV was turned down, and guys started opening up more of what’s going on at home. I think we can do a better job with providing more resources for our guys on the frontlines. We are always “staying ready so we don’t have to get ready.” But with mental health, the fire service, is far behind. I worked as a fire academy instructor in my last few years, and we are just starting to touch on it—what about all the others guys who’ve since gone through prior to that? More Chaplain programs, more front-end help for the guys, who don’t know what they don’t know. Thank you.
