In 1976, amidst the picturesque landscapes of Northern Utah, Caffe Ibis was born from the shared vision of founders Randy Wirth and Sally Sears. Driven by a passion for quality foods and a commitment to organic alternatives, they established the Straw Ibis Market and Café, laying the foundation for what would become a pioneering force in the specialty coffee industry. As the appreciation for specialty organic coffee grew in the mid-1980s, Randy and Sally sought greater control over quality. This pursuit led to the creation of Caffe Ibis Coffee®, an artisan coffee roasting house dedicated to excellence and sustainability. Guided by the "Allen Test," inspired by their mentor Dr. Allen Stokes — a renowned wildlife biologist and environmentalist — they committed to making business decisions that upheld human rights and environmental stewardship. Caffe Ibis quickly became a leader in the specialty coffee movement, gaining recognition for its quality and sustainable practices. Over the decades, accolades have included Best Roaster in Utah (City Weekly, 2024) and national recognition with wins at the U.S. Roaster Championship (First Place, 2015). As a champion of quality, healthy, and local foods, Caffe Ibis earned the Slow Food USA "Snail of Approval" Award (2022), and for its leadership in sustainability, the Utah Society for Environmental Education's "Green Business of the Year" (2015).
