Paktli means Joy in Nahuatl the language of the Aztecs, inspired by the Mexican alegrias that also means joy in Spanish, a snack dating to the 16th century made with puffed amaranth, honey, or chocolate. Paktli is my version of the ancient Mexican alegrias made with puffed amaranth, quinoa, and millet with organic chocolates and dried fruits and nuts. When I came to the US, I found that very few knew about Alegrias and Mexican sweets were artificial and stereotypical. I wanted to recreate my childhood snack in a gourmet, authentic product honoring my heritage. Paktli is built for the culturally curious, who seek healthy versions of authentic ethnic foods.
