Travis Grillo had his heart set on a job at Nike. When he didn't get the job, he decided to grow cucumbers and dill and put his family's 100-year-old recipe to work. In 2007, Travis started selling his pickles out of his 1985 Cutlass. In 2008, he upgraded to a wooden pickle cart in Boston Common selling spears for 2/$1. In 2009, Whole Foods discovered Grillo's Pickles and started carrying them in the North Atlantic region. Other regions soon followed, as well as other natural and conventional retailers. In 2021, Irresistible Foods Group acquired Grillo's Pickles.
