Mezcla was born in the kitchen, forged by a friendship between social entrepreneur Coco Sotelo and then student-athlete Griffin Spolansky. Griff always fueled up on protein bars, a convenient way to get nutrients in an easy-to-eat format. As a massive foodie, he rarely enjoyed the doughy, date-based bars that left a sticky aftertaste in his mouth. But he never thought about making his own bar to share with others… until he met Coco. Griffin met Coco during a social entrepreneurship class at the University of Virginia. Inspired by Coco's granola company which merged ingredients from her hometown in Mexico with an American staple, Griffin saw an opportunity to make a bar that he'd actually want to eat. Countless hours and batches later, Mezcla's initial recipe was perfected in Coco's kitchen - a plant-based bar that tastes like a crispy treat and functions like a protein bar. Mezcla's come a long way from its humble beginnings. After launching in August 2020, consumers-turned-massive fans have fueled our rapid growth. True to the founders' roots in social entrepreneurship, Mezcla partners with The Hunger Project, donating a share of profits to fight food insecurity worldwide.
