It all started with a simple question our customers still ask us daily:"What is Tempeh?". After a transformative health food journey, and a search for clean plant based proteins, founder Max Petrich was asking himself this very question. "What is Tempeh?". Research led to intrigue and intrigue led to experimentation. The results of those early soy-free tempeh experiments led to an obsession. In a small kitchen cooler, San Diego Tempeh's first productions were life changing revelations. These small batch results, created Tempeh so light, fluffy and full of flavor that it seemed to be a different food altogether. After perfecting his tempeh for friends and family we launched San Diego Tempeh at a local Farmer's Market in 2019. Since then, we have introduced thousands of people to the versatile applications and nutritional benefits of this amazing fermented food.
