TOCHI began in 2019 as a family project. Dina Shi and her brothers in law, Ian and Marc Seah, grew up in immigrant households where food was the center of everything, and they couldn't find snacks on American shelves that carried the flavors they grew up eating. So they started making their own in their kitchen, using real ingredients and staying true to the dishes that inspired each flavor. The early days were scrappy: batch testing at home, packing online orders from the apartment, and moms pitching in to fill the first big order. Demand grew fast enough that production moved from a commercial kitchen to a co-manufacturer in under six months. The name carries the story. In Chinese, 偷吃 (tōu chī) means playfully sneaking a snack, a nod to raiding the pantry as kids. In Japanese, 土地 (tochi) means land, a reminder to stay rooted in where our flavors come from.
