Kiki Milk was born out of a very personal need. When co-founders and husband and wife, Alex and Lauren Abelin, had their first son, Alakai, they were met with two unexpected challenges: Lauren faced breastfeeding difficulties, and Alakai experienced colic. As new parents, they were searching for a transition milk that was clean, organic, and free from dairy and soy (both common triggers), but the options were incredibly limited. What they found on the shelves didn’t meet his nutritional needs, nor their standards for what they wanted to feed their child. Many products were filled with gums, seed oils, and additives that didn’t feel aligned with a whole-food approach to nutrition. It became clear that the market wasn’t truly designed with kids in mind – most plant-based milks were either made for adults or simplified versions of adult products. Out of that frustration came curiosity, and from that curiosity came action. Living on Kauai, surrounded by an abundance of fresh, nutrient-dense foods, Lauren began experimenting in their home kitchen. Inspired by the simplicity and nourishment of real ingredients, especially coconut, one of the island’s most abundant gifts. Lauren began blending coconut meat, coconut water, hemp seeds, and other whole foods to create a fresh plant- based milk for their family. What started as a homemade solution quickly became something bigger. They partnered with pediatricians, nutritionists, and food scientists to develop a product that could deliver on both nutrition and taste, without compromising on ingredient quality. Every decision was guided by a simple question: Is this something we would feel good giving our own child? Kiki Milk is rooted in that same intention today. It’s more than just milk – it’s a reflection of a belief that kids deserve better, and that food should feel both nourishing and joyful.
