Pezzy Pets began after founder Mike Mitchell worked as a fisheries researcher in Mexico and saw firsthand the ecological and environmental damage being caused by invasive plecostomus, commonly known as "devil fish." At the same time, they were incredibly abundant and nutritious proteins that were largely going to waste. Mike started partnering with chefs in Mexico to sell devil fish to restaurants and corporate cafeterias across the country. That experience sparked a bigger idea: what if invasive species could become unique, healthy pet treats that help restore ecosystems at the same time? What started with devil fish eventually expanded into treats made from invasive lionfish, silver carp, wild boar, and nilgai antelope. Pezzy treats are all single or limited ingredient, providing nutrient-dense, novel proteins for pets while protecting native ecosystems. At its core, Pezzy exists to prove that pet health, environmental restoration, and economic opportunity can all work together.
