Ocean's Balance was founded in 2016 with a simple idea: the ocean holds powerful solutions for healthier food, healthier ecosystems, and healthier communities. Along the rocky coast of Maine, seaweed has grown abundantly for centuries—nourishing marine life, improving water quality, and offering a naturally nutritious food source. Yet much of this resource remained overlooked in the modern American diet. We set out to change that. Ocean's Balance works with local harvesters and farmers to bring sustainably sourced seaweed from the Gulf of Maine into everyday foods. Our mission is to make seaweed accessible, delicious, and functional—whether as a clean-label ingredient for manufacturers or as ready-to-eat products for consumers. Seaweed is one of the most regenerative crops on the planet. It requires no fresh water, fertilizer, or arable land, and it actively improves ocean health as it grows. By building markets for seaweed, we help support coastal working waterfronts and create new economic opportunities for fishermen and farmers. From innovative functional ingredients to flavorful retail products, everything we make reflects our core values: sustainability, transparency, and real food from real places.
