THE BEGINNING Formed in 1987, Bard Valley Date Growers® was comprised of a group of U.S. Medjool date growers who were collectively committed to abide by a set of stringent growing practices and exacting standards designed to yield the highest possible quality fruit. The group was initially comprised of Imperial Date (The Nunez Family) and Nelson Brothers Dates (Dave Nelson) as well as Royal Medjool, Southwestern Date, and Sun Garden Date Growers (Steve Shadle). The group had long recognized the superior eating experience of a fresh Medjool over other date varieties that were typically sold dried. Together, they knew they could protect the integrity of this special fruit by developing industry leading standards for both growing and harvesting practices Their focus and attention to every detail paid off as the unparalleled quality of their fruit began gaining recognition with retailers and shoppers around the world.
