PWR^UP was founded in 2024. My journey started with a TIME magazine feature on "Sugar" that I became deeply impacted by in 2016. The article revealed a staggering reality: the average 4- to 8-year-old consumed 50 lbs of sugar annually. It included a striking image of a child standing next to a tower of sugar bags taller than them. Fast forward to 2022, and kids are now consuming 57 lbs a year—a 12% increase in six years, reflecting an alarming rise in diabetes and sugar consumption. Further, the American Heart Association reports that adults now consume an average of 66 lbs of added sugars annually, with the average American family consuming over 13,000 lbs of sugar over a lifetime, outweighing even a fully grown elephant. So, I made a choice: with the experience and knowledge gained throughout my food career, I committed to creating something extraordinary.
