When Jonathan Wolfson's youngest son was diagnosed with "failure to thrive," he turned to the experts who stressed the foundational role that nutrition plays in infants, that several key nutrients including Omega-3s and choline are critically important to support the growth, development and function of the brain. The scientific consensus around the importance of these brain nutrients is so strong that nearly all infant formula is fortified with them, and all the leading organizations that issue dietary guidelines recommend minimum daily intakes. So he started to wonder: Was the rest of his family thriving? Were they getting the nutrients needed for their developing and active brains? It was then that he, along with his co-founder Mark Brooks, a fellow dad of three, worked to identify the key nutrients for brain health that are lacking in the typical American diet. According to the guidelines set by the World Health Organization, the average American family consumes less than 20% of the recommended levels of these brain boosting ingredients creating a brain nutrition gap. And these essential nutrients are critically important to the health, performance and function of the brain across the age spectrum. In children, a rapidly growing body of scientific studies shows that these essential brain nutrients help with ADHD, dyslexia, depression, autism and other behavioral, learning, neurological, and psychiatric conditions. So, in 2019, the two leveraged their backgrounds creating better-for-you consumer and B2B brands, to launch Brainiac Foods, real and delicious food that feeds the brain to fuel the brilliance.
